Since 2025 we've been co-organizing the Italian Drupal community conference. We do it for a practical reason: we work with Drupal every day on complex projects — public sector, enterprise platforms, decoupled architectures — and a solid technical community raises the bar on tools, skills and outcomes. Compliance Engineering: automated governance and EAA risk mitigation

The EAA is in force. Manual audits don't scale and relying on editors' awareness is a bet that gets expensive fast. In this talk we present the Accessibility-as-Code approach: WCAG conformance tests in the CI/CD pipeline, severity budgets to decide when a deploy ships and when it doesn't, break-glass procedures for emergencies. Compliance as code, not as a checklist.

AI in the Drupal workflow

Asking a generic LLM to write complex Drupal code produces mediocre results — it lacks the patterns, conventions and architectural context. In Bologna we'll see two concrete approaches: an agent trained on real codebases via AST, embeddings and vector DBs, and a workflow that compressed 163 paragraph types into 42 during a migration. The line between useful automation and generative noise comes down to training data.

Decoupled architecture, no ambiguity

Headless, decoupled, progressively decoupled — three terms used interchangeably, but they describe architectures with different trade-offs. This talk draws clear lines between them and puts them to the test: one Drupal content model exposed via JSON:API to three different consumers — Astro, Next.js, FastAPI. One contract, no vendor lock-in, every frontend free to choose its own stack.

EAA compliance: from cost to process

Since June 28, 2025, the European Accessibility Act is law. WCAG compliance is no longer a matter of awareness or good practice — it's a constraint with precise legal and financial consequences. The Accessibility-as-Code approach moves checks into the CI/CD pipeline: severity budgets to manage thresholds, architectural isolation between code and editorial content, break-glass for urgent deploys.

Open source outside the bubble

Drupal is one of the most solid web platforms around. The problem is that almost no one outside the community knows it — at Web Summit in Lisbon, "Drupal" was just another booth among thousands of startups. This year's keynote puts the open source Tragedy of the Commons on the table: everyone uses the ecosystem, few invest in its visibility. It's not a marketing issue. It's a project survival issue.

The first edition, up close

Rome, November 14, 2025. The first edition of DrupalCamp Italy: 2 tracks, 12 sessions, 121 attendees. We were among the organizers and on stage — with a talk on Schema.org and Generative Engine Optimization, on how to structure data so it gets picked up by AI answer engines. The community showed up. We looked each other in the eye and decided: we're doing this again.
